Golden Gate Ageno Alum is Bay Area’s Most Admired CEO

At an event hosted by the San Francisco Business Times on November 11, 2015, Golden Gate University Ageno School alumnus Bernard J. Tyson received the Bay Area Most Admired CEO award.

Tyson, who received his MBA in health service administration from the Golden Gate University in 1984, is the CEO of Kaiser Permanente. The panel of judges for the award included business and academic leaders from across the country.

Kaiser Permanente serves over 10 million members in eight states and the District of Columbia, delivering high quality healthcare coverage. Tyson has operated in various roles over his 30-year history with the company. He began his time as an intern with Kaiser, during his enrollment in GGU’s MBA program. He was hired permanently after just three months. During Tyson’s tenure as chairman and CEO, he has brought to the forefront advocacy for eliminating healthcare disparities among individuals through the use of advanced data aggregation technologies.

Tyson ranked third this year in the Modern Healthcare “100 Most Influential People in Health Care” annual list. Ahead of Tyson as numbers one and two on that list were John Roberts, Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, and President Barack Obama.  Tyson also co-chairs the World Economic Forum’s Health Governors Community.

In a press release, Golden Gate University President Dr. David J. Fike said, “Golden Gate University couldn’t be more proud of Mr. Tyson and his extraordinary achievements as the most influential leader in health care today. His innovative leadership and commitment to the community exemplify the values driving our educational mission, and that GGU strives to develop in our students…He is a model to follow and an inspiration to us all.”
