Merage School Values California Students
The University of California at Irvine’s Merage School of Business recently announced that California residents who gain acceptance to the school’s full-time MBA program are automatically eligible for a $10,000 fellowship.
The fellowship is meant to appeal to local talent and shows an effort on the part of the University to retain residents, with the goal of strengthening the state’s economy.
In a press release, assistant dean of the program Jon Kaplan said, “The University of California system has a mandate to serve the State. The best way we, as a business school, can do that is to try and increase the number of California applicants. Already California residents pay less in tuition than international students or those who are coming in from outside the state. We’re hoping the added fellowship will make the program more attractive to local prospects.”
The current rate of tuition for California residents who enroll in the full-time MBA program is $40,532.50, while the rate for out of state students is $48,607.50. All applicants — both international and US students – are eligible for merit-based fellowships. Criteria for these awards are GPA, GRE/GMAT scores, work experience, and accomplishments in leadership.
Merage students also have the opportunity to apply for teaching assistantships, which provide not only financial benefits but also valuable work experience.
