UC Davis Graduate School of Management Alum Earns Cybersecurity Innovation Award
Malcolm Harkins, a 1992 MBA graduate of UC Davis Graduate School of Management, recently received the 2015 Security Advisor Alliance Excellence in Innovation Award from Fortune 1000 Chief Information Security Officers.
Harkins is the chief information security officer at Cylance, one of the nation’s leading cybersecurity firms. He joined Cylance in 2015 after serving in various roles at Intel since 1992. He became Intel’s first chief security and privacy officer in 2013.
In a recent press release, Cylance CEO Stuart McClure said, “[Harkins] is an industry leader who understands the security challenges of any enterprise and knows how to apply technology to solve those challenges. Malcolm has shown himself to be a very valuable asset to Cylance, its clients and a broad set of enterprise decision makers seeking new and more effective approaches to reducing the risks wrought by the ongoing increase in the number and sophistication of cyberthreats. His humility and dedication to working on cybersecurity’s front-lines to help businesses think differently about how to prevail over cyberattackers is admirable.”
Cylance is unique among cybersecurity firms in that it has implemented artificial intelligence for prevention of attacks, as opposed to simple detection of possible threats.
Clayton Pummill, executive director of the Security Advisor Alliance, said, “The Alliance is thrilled Malcolm received recognition from his peers as an industry-leading innovator. Malcolm approaches information security’s biggest challenges with creativity and offers a unique perspective that will provide for actionable solutions to our greatest challenges.”
