Two NYC Metro Schools Make Business Insider Rankings

Columbia Business School and Stern School of Business – New York University both ranked in Business Insider‘s 50 Best Business Schools in the World 2015  list, coming in at No. 7 and No. 16, respectively.

Business Insider writes of Columbia: “Students begin crafting their network and community within the business world the minute they arrive at Columbia, thanks in part to the school’s cluster system, which places first-year students in ‘clusters’ of 65 to 70 people who take all their core classes together.” The website also cited Columbia’s notable alumni, such as Warren Buffett.

In writing about Stern, Business Insider singled out the school’s focus on individuality, stating “students can choose up to three specializations, with options including everything from banking to real estate to luxury marketing.” The website also noted that Stern alumni land jobs at places like Boston Consulting Group, NBCUniversal, Morgan Stanley, and Burberry.

This is the sixth year for Business Insider’s ranking. For this list, the website revamped its methodology. Under consideration were 60 “perennially top-rated” schools that offer MBA programs. Reputation counted for 35 percent of the ranking and was based on a survey of Business Insider readers who had interviewed job candidates with MBA’s.

In the other categories, information was provided by the schools themselves. Twenty-five percent of the ranking was based on post-graduate salary. Tuition and fees and average GMAT score each made up 15 percent of the ranking. The final 10 percent of the ranking was based on job placement.

The Wharton School – University of Pennsylvania was ranked number one overall in the Business Insider rankings.
