Carey Students Participate in New Real Estate Challenge Competition
Students at the Carey Business School students are taking part in a year-long real estate portfolio competition. According to a press release on the Carey website, The Real Confidence University Portfolio challenge began in July and challenged teams from Carey and 14 other business schools to compose and submit a real estate portfolio using $1 billion in simulated capital. The winning team will earn a $50,000 university scholarship.
Brooke Harlander, captain for the Johns Hopkins University team, said that these types of competitions are a great asset to students at Carey.
“The way Carey is connected to the real estate industry in Baltimore and the region is invaluable to a student,” Harlander said. “For real estate students, getting real world advice and business examples and experiences really enhances what you read in a book.”
The Real Confidence University Portfolio challenge is sponsored by the Altus Group Limited in collaboration with the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts, and the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries.
Charles DiRocco, a Carey MBA Alumni and director of research for Altus Group, said one of the goals of the competition is to enhance the learning experience for participating students.
“It’s something different and unique,” DiRocco said. “It gives the students a hands-on feel of what it is like to operate as a commercial real estate investment strategist.”
