Rutgers School of Business to Offer MBA Program for Healthcare Professionals

Rutgers campus

Rutgers School of Business Executive Education (RSBEE) recently introduced a new mini-MBA program entitled Strategic Healthcare Management for Practices.

The program begins on February 3, 2016, and it is open to healthcare professionals and managers who seek to further their knowledge in a rapidly changing field.

Clinical expertise is only one aspect of the healthcare profession, as noted in a recent press release on the program. Doctors, nurses and administrators are required to have a mastery of law, accounting and interpersonal relations in the performance of their duties. Program manager Jennie Fine notes, “[The program] addresses an unmet need in the healthcare industry… Healthcare practices are small businesses, and the reality is that operational or compliance-related inefficiencies are a drain on time and resources.”

Each session of the program will be comprised of two in-depth modules with interactive presentations, group lectures, and individual and team exercises. Included on the list of modules are ‘Healthcare 2020’, which provides an overview of the US healthcare system; ‘Healthcare Reform Cause and Effect’ which will examine the effect of reform on patients and practices; ‘Stay Small or Go Big’, an exploration of the pros and cons of remaining an individual practice or joining a larger system; and ‘Legal Considerations for Healthcare Practices’, which will address regulatory and legal issues pertaining to medical records.

Other modules will cover accounting and efficiency within medical practices.

“In this era of ever-expanding healthcare institutions, the Mini-MBA educates healthcare providers and managers about the implications of joining a larger organization, and provides the tools for effectively understanding evolving regulations on any scale,” Fine said.
