Stanford Graduate School of Business to Host Top Airline CEO
Stanford University Graduate School of Business (GSB) recently announced that it will host a student-led conversation this month with Doug Parker, chairman and CEO of the American Airlines Group.
The event will take place Thursday, January 21st, on the Stanford GSB campus.
Parker earned the title of CEO of the American Airlines Group after US Airways merged with American in 2013. Prior to the merger, he served as chairman and CEO of US Airways. His tenure in this position lasted through the merger of US Airways and America West. He had previously served as president and chief executive officer of America West. Parker became head of this airline less than two weeks prior to the events of September 11th, 2001, and is noted for leading the company through that harrowing day and those that followed.
Parker is a major proponent of consolidation in the airline industry, and during his leadership, US Airways boasted record growth in revenue and became a leader among its peers in both profit margin and operational performance.
The event, part of Stanford GSB’s “View from the Top’” series, is free and open to faculty, staff, and students, as well as the Stanford community at large. Previous speakers have included Elizabeth Holmes, founder and chief executive officer of Theranos (a medical hardware company that specializes in efficient blood testing machinery); Jamie Dimon, chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase; and Kent Thiry, chairman and CEO of DaVita Healthcare Partners, Inc.
