Three graduate business students were given special recognition at the University of Houston – C.T. Bauer College of Business convocation ceremony on December 18th.

Along with undergraduate students who received 4.0 grade point averages, these three graduate students joined the event’s platform party to celebrate being named the top of their respective classes.

The top students were divided among categories of MBA, MS Finance and MS Accountancy. The Outstanding MBA Student was Varun Sreenivas, who was born and raised in Dubai. Sreenivas received an undergraduate degree in engineering while in India, and then returned to Dubai to start his own heavy engineering company. Sreenivas then left Dubai for Bauer College after running the company for four years. While in the Bauer MBA program, Sreenivas succeeded on several fronts: obtaining an internship with an energy services company, holding several leadership positions and working as a graduate teaching assistant. In addition to the honor at convocation, Sreenivas was awarded with the University of Houston’s distinguished graduate student leader award, meant to celebrate his achievements both on and off campus.

Min Chen was named as the outstanding MS Finance Student. With vast experience in the healthcare industry, Chen spent her time at Bauer developing an interest in mergers and acquisitions, along with valuation and investment. She additionally had the opportunity to intern at Hess Corporation as a financial analyst. After graduation, Chen will return to the healthcare industry and put to use her new-found knowledge of finance in medical budgeting, forecasting and planning.

Finally, the outstanding MS Accountancy Student was Aimee Muniz, who began at Bauer as a BBA student in 2011 before continuing into the MS Accountancy program in 2014. Muniz performed well during her time at Bauer, serving as an officer for Beta Alpha Psi and leading several winning teams in case competitions. She has completed three internships with KPMG LLP and has now received a full-time offer to join KPMG’s Audit practice.
