Virginia Governor Names Mason Entrepreneurs to Council on Youth Entrepreneurship

According to an article by Nicole Hitpas, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe announced the members of the new Governor’s Council on Youth Entrepreneurship, a council that will coordinate and implement youth entrepreneurship initiatives and for young people in Virginia. The list includes three people with ties to the George Mason School of Business.

The council includes student innovators, entrepreneurs, business leaders and educators from across Virginia, which will conduct a comprehensive assessment of current local, state and federal programs and services available to young entrepreneurs as well as support opportunities to advance research, innovation and commercialization at Virginia’s colleges and universities.

Those named to the list include:

• David Miller, director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Mason’s School of Business, who said, “It’s a great honor to be able to support the Governor’s efforts to promote youth entrepreneurship across the Commonwealth and share what we have learned at Mason while developing programs, expanding courses, and pursuing practical research.”
• Jody Keenan, state director for the Virginia Small Business Development Center Network and director of the Mason Enterprise Center.
• Jade Garrett, Mason graduate student and founder of Positive Deviancy, who said that, “The council will benefit the community by allowing key people who are heavily involved with entrepreneurship to meet, collaborate, and share ideas on many topics that are making it difficult for students to engage in entrepreneurship. Hopefully, we will come up with impactful solutions for entrepreneurs so that many of the unnecessary barriers and red tape can be eliminated.”
