Foster School Regularly Ranks as Top Global Research School

When it comes to scholarly research and productivity, the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business is a powerhouse; not just in the U.S. but across the world. According to the most recent 2016 Global MBA Ranking by the Financial Times, Foster faculty rank #16 in the world, #13 in the nation, and #4 among public universities in research productivity.

The ranking was determined by factoring in the number of research articles published by the school’s faculty in the top 45 scholarly business journals. It was weighted to reflect the size of the faculty. However, even if the size of the faculty is not considered, Foster School still ranks in the top 25 research schools in the world according to the Top 100 Business School Research Rankings completed by the University of Texas at Dallas.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities rates the Foster School as #24 in the world and #21 in the nation regarding business and economics research. The ranking was compiled by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and looks at the school’s number of major prize winners, scholarly publications, citations, and percentage of papers published in top journals.

As for the departments that make up the Foster School, they each have their own accomplishments in research.

• The Foster School Department of Management and Organization was ranked #2 in the nation by the Management Department Productivity Rankings published by Texas A&M University. Only the Wharton School published more studies.
• As for the Foster School’s Department of Finance and Business Economics, it generated the 8th most publications in the top four finance journals, according to the Finance Rankings Index.
• The Department of Accounting ranked #27 in the world for the number of studies published between 1990-2015 according to Accounting Rankings.
