On Tuesday, February 2, the Mercer Innovation Center at Mercer University – Eugene W. Stetson School of Business & Economics will host the 1 Million Cups lecture for the first time.
1 Million Cups is a program developed by the Kaufmann Foundation with the goal to educate, engage and connect entrepreneurs. The name originates from the idea that entrepreneurs can network and develop innovations over one million cups of coffee. The event, which will feature Mercer student and entrepreneur Andrew Eck, will be free and available to the public, taking place at the new Mercer Innovation Center.
Andrew Eck is an electrical engineering student and recipient of the 2015 James T. McAfee Jr. Endowed Vision and Leadership Scholarship. Eck is responsible for starting two businesses while in at the Stetson School- Georgia Pallet, a company which ‘upcycles’ wooden shipping pallets into custom furniture creations, and Corner Concerts- a company for organizing pop-up concerts in unexpected venues. Eck additionally helped to create SparkMacon, a makerspace made to provide an outlet for local creatives and entrepreneurs, with a focus on a STEAM (science, technology, arts and math) education.
Eck continues his work in the Macon-Bibb area, his recent project a band incubator which will help prepare for Mercer Music at Capricorn, the University’s renovation of Macon’s historic Capricorn Studios. The project will result in a space that includes band practice rooms, an event space and a fully functioning studio.
The 1 Million Cups lecture is open to the public and will take place Tuesday, February 2nd, at 6:30pm. The Mercer Innovation Center hopes to reach across the University, inviting students from all academic disciplines to get involved.
