On January 30th, the University of Georgia Alumni Association held a ceremony to honor the 100 fastest-growing companies owned by UGA alumni, with alumni from the University of Georgia – Terry College of Business accounting for exactly half of all businesses represented.
Seventy-two Terry alumni spanning 50 businesses made the list for the seventh annual Bulldog 100 Celebration in early 2016. Nine of the alumni had graduated with MBA degrees.
Nominations for the businesses on this year’s Bulldog 100 were accepted between February and May of last year. To be considered, it was required that each organization be owned or operated by a former UGA student, who must own at least 50% of the company or be the president, managing partner or CEO. Each company must also have been in business for at least five years and have earned more than $100,000 in revenues for the calendar year 2012.
The UGA Alumni Association received over 400 nominations for the 2016 list. The final 100 is a varied list, including companies of all sizes and covering a wide array of services and products. Such industries are included as dentistry, consulting, retail, pest control, dentistry and law. Not restricted to Georgia, companies from the Bulldog 100 spanned from Texas to New York.
This year’s event, held at the Atlanta Marriot Marquis, helped the Alumni Association to honor the 153 alumni on the list. The night included a roundtable discussion with business owners, led by UGA director of entrepreneurial programs, Bob Pinckney. Following the roundtable, the event included a reception, dinner and keynote address delivered by the CEO and president of C-Fresh, Jeff Dunn (BBA ‘80’).
