Students at the University of North Texas – College of Business recently took top prize in the 35th Annual Operation Stimulus Case Competition, continuing a year-long winning streak.
This competition, which took place at the Denver Transportation Club on February 4-6th, marked the first time that UNT students have won three of the major case competitions offered for logistics and supply chain. Competitors in this challenge were asked to act as a hypothetical managing team for a warehouse facing some serious issues- such as safety, improving operations, budgeting and managing inventory.
The UNT team featured four students: Jacob Koren (Lewisville, Texas), Mary Catherine Schoals (Flower Mound, Texas), Dylan Smith (Round Rock, Texas), and Lara Catalina Quinones Rios (Medellin, Colombia). The student team took first prize at the competition, defeating fifteen teams from top logistics schools such as the two-time defending champion, Dalhousie University in Canada.
Assistant Professor of logistics, Ila Manuj, also serves as the faculty advisor for the Logistics Student Association at UNT. “There is no room for error in this competition,” she said. “This is a major competition with quite a few big-name schools and esteemed professors. The students that compete come from all over the U.S. and Canada.”
Last May, UNT students took first prize at the Intermodal Association of North America- University of North Florida Case Competition. In September, UNT students were winners at the Intermodal EXPO Academic Challenge for the third year in a row.
The UNT Business School offers undergraduate opportunities as well as an MBA in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, with several of the graduate courses also available to take online.
