London Business School MBA Candidate Receives Schmidt MacArthur Fellowship

London-Business-School

A London Business School (LBS) MBA student was recently awarded the prestigious Schmidt MacArthur Fellowship.

Terence Steinberg will earn his MBA in 2017, and he will take part in the year-long international program that combines studies in business, engineering and design.

This postgraduate curriculum is training for what has been described as ‘the circular economy’, which has as its goal an industrial model that focuses on the reuse of materials and the elimination of waste. Steinberg said upon announcement of his award:

“I believe that ‘going circular’ is critical to bringing prosperity to the economy and restoring balance in our ecosystems. This conviction inspired me to pursue my MBA at London Business School. I am honored to now become a Schmidt-MacArthur Fellow to research circular economic innovation.”

As part of the application process, students submit a 90 second film to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation addressing their understanding of the concepts of the circular economy.

Steinberg’s mentor at LBS, Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship Bryan Stroube will also participate in the program. Dr. Stroube’s research is focused on the analysis of the effects of various motives of world markets. He said:

“The Fellowship is an exciting opportunity to be part of the conversation on novel ways to address some very pressing issues. I look forward to watching Terence’s project develop over the course of the program.”

The Schmidt MacArthur Fellowship is awarded to 18 students and their mentors each year. Applicants are selected from partner universities including UC Berkeley, Cranfield University, Stanford, Imperial College London, and Yale.
