San Diego State University ranks among the top public universities in the United States according to The Business Journals. It’s the second year in a row that SDSU has made it onto the list. The school was ranked #60 out of 477 public universities and #7 out of California’s 29 schools.
The ranking determined which colleges offered the best educational experiences to their students, and the highest marks went to schools with highly selective admissions processes, strong retention and graduation rates, prestigious reputations, and more. The study reviewed a total of 477 public universities throughout the US that met specific criteria. Criteria included, but was not limited to:
- At least 1,000 full-time undergraduate students
- At least 50% of degrees awarded at the level of a bachelor’s degree or higher
- Classification as a baccalaureate, master’s, or research institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advance of Teaching.
- Not a US military academy
According to the study, the top public universities were the University of North Carolina, the University of Michigan, and the University of Virginia. Rounding out the top five were two California universities—UCLA and UC Berkeley.
The study used a 19-part formula to reach its conclusion. Some of the most important elements included affordable tuition and housing costs, diverse faculties and student bodies, and economically robust communities. Affordability was particularly important due to the escalating costs of obtaining a degree.
SDSU has already received additional recognition for its performance this year. The U.S. News & World Report ranked SDSU’s undergraduate entrepreneurial program as #8 among public universities and #21 overall. The Peace Corps also ranked it as the twenty-fourth top volunteer-producing college. SDSU also ranks among the country’s best schools for veterans, ranking #11 in the Military Times.
SDSU offers a Sports Management MBA, Full-Time MBA, Part-Time MBA, and an Executive MBA. The School is located near downtown San Diego and just hours from Los Angeles.
