Stanford to Host Future MBAs During Summer Program
Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business will hold its inaugural Future Leaders Program on August 11-14, 2016. The event will introduce college juniors and seniors from diverse backgrounds to MBA education, and also to post-MBA career options.
Students who attend the three-day event will receive the opportunity to stay on campus and to experience the rich culture of the surrounding area.
The program is aimed toward LGBTQ, African American, Hispanic American, and Native American students, and also to those who are first generation college students and PELL grant recipients. The goal is to expose these future leaders (especially those from non-business related majors such as science, the arts, technology, engineering or math) to the possibilities of an MBA degree.
Students will participate in a class immersion experience, in which they will tackle a specific business issue and explore a case study. Additionally, they will receive exposure to Stanford’s d.school methodology, which is a multidisciplinary approach to innovation that combines technology, business, and ethics.
Visits to companies in the thriving Bay Area will also be part of the program, during which program participants will have the opportunity to network. This will dovetail with a workshop that allows students to explore career options with Stanford advisors. Finally, attendees will learn about the MBA application process with the guidance of admissions reps.
While this year’s application deadline has already passed, students are encouraged to apply to future sessions of the program. Eligible students are required to have completed their sophomore years of college by June 2016, and to possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Letters of recommendation from professors and internship or work supervisors are also part of the application process, as are two essays addressing academic and career goals.
The Future Leaders Program is sponsored by Google and Norwest Venture Partners.
