$30 Million Donated to Rotman School to Spark Innovation

business innovation

A $30 million gift to the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management will spark innovation in management education and research for years to come. The gift, donated by the estate of Joseph Rotman, will help the Rotman School remain one of the leading global brands in management education.

This is only the latest gift from Joseph and Sandra Rotman, the most generous benefactors in the University’s history. They’ve donated significantly over the past 20 years, providing support to the School’s highest priorities such as scholarships, faculty positions, and infrastructure investments. Their most recent $30 million gift will go toward the Rotman Catalyst Fund, which will be used to fund bold and innovative initiatives to continue to transform management education and to increase the impact of the School’s students.

The Rotman Catalyst Fund will enable students to access previously unavailable innovation in business education, and it will enable faculty to conduct more groundbreaking research. The goal is to create a transformative student experience and lifelong alumni engagement. Specifically, emphasis will be placed on entrepreneurship and innovation, global mindset, and leadership in financial management and good governance.

In a press release from the University, Dean Tiff Macklem of the Rotman School spoke about the donation:

“More than 20 years ago, Sandy and Joe believed that Canada needed a world class management school, which was the beginning of their commitment to the Rotman School and the University of Toronto,” said Dean Macklem. “With their support, the School underwent a remarkable period of growth led by my predecessor Roger Martin. Today with this new support from the Rotman family, we will take the next leap forward with more intrepid thinking, innovative and transformative programs, and an enhanced commitment to experiential education and lifelong learning. We express our deep gratitude for Sandy and Joe’s vision, foresight and enduring support.”

The goal of the $30 million donation is to encourage intrepid thinking about the most pressing problems of our time. The University of Toronto is one of the world’s top 20 research universities.
