Celts Breakfast Club at Cameron Connects Students and Business Leaders
The Celts Breakfast Club at the University of St. Thomas – Cameron School of Business recently had the honor of hearing from Ernest Cockrell, president of The Cockrell Foundation, who spoke of his experiences and success in business.
In 2014, the Celts Breakfast Club was established at Cameron to provide students with a chance to interface with successful professionals on important business topics. The school hopes that these interactions will allow students to reflect, and encourage business learning outside of the classroom.
Ernest Cockrell attended the Breakfast Club in February to discuss his experience as president of The Cockrell Foundation, which provides funding for charitable organizations, particularly those with a focus on education, healthcare and medicine, youth activities, and cultural institutions.
Speaking to the students, Cockrell noted his personal experience as well as the importance of the energy industry in Texas and around the world. He advised students to incorporate faith into their lives and to give back to the community, naming this as one of the fundamental “secrets” of happiness.
Dr. Beena George, Cameron School dean, commented on Cockrell’s speech and involvement with the Celts Breakfast Club:
“Mr. Cockrell is a role model for UST students, and his willingness to speak to the students is always appreciated,” she said. “His presentation offers guidance for professional and personal and is well received by the students.”
Students were also excited by the experiences and expertise that he shared. Julian Fuentes, a sophomore and finance major, commented on Cockrell’s inspirational success, in particular how his business focuses on charity:
“…sitting there in a room with a man who has gone through the business world and has maintained his faith and integrity, showed me firsthand that regardless of what I choose to be my path in life, it is possible for me to do so without allowing my character or my values to be broken down.”
