Terry Women’s Initiative Launched at Terry College

The Terry Women’s Initiative was recently launched at the University of Georgia – Terry College of Business, a program which will be dedicated to recruiting, advancing, and inspiring confidence in students.

The new program is possible thanks to a donation from Betsy Camp (BBA ‘74, JD ‘77), a Terry College alumni who today serves as the president and CEO at DF management Inc. The program is open to all students at UGA, regardless of their gender or major. The goal of the Terry Women’s Initiative is simply to provide support to students through the entirety of their college career, from selecting the right major to guiding them through the job search.

According to Camp, the inspiration behind the program was a 2014 article in the Atlantic Monthly called ‘The Confidence Gap’, which finds that confidence is just as critical to achieving success as competence.

“According to research, confidence comes from the lessons learned taking risks and leaning into opportunities as they present themselves,” commented Camp. “It is the mission of the Initiative to be a resource so that every Terry woman has the confidence, as well as the competence, to reach her full potential.”

The new Initiative will invite all students to attend events such as round-table discussions with successful businesswomen, alumni networking, lectures, book clubs and more. In addition to student involvement, Terry alumni, faculty, staff and recruiters will be crucial in guiding students through the classroom and beyond.

Benjamin C. Ayers, Terry College dean, commented on the incredible value of this new Initiative and thanked Camp for her involvement. “The creative and supportive programming of the Terry Women’s Initiative helps to further prepare our students to be the absolute best they can be,” he said.
