Bauer Students Inducted Into Business Honor Society
The University of Houston – C.T. Bauer College of Business recently held an event to honor eighty Bauer students on their induction into an honor society regarded as “the best in business”.
Beta Gamma Sigma is an international honor society serving all business programs which have been certified by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), of which Bauer has been a part for just over fifty years. Beta Gamma Sigma was founded in 1913, and today features more than 750,000 members in 160 countries. To join, students must be at least sophomores in their second semester, juniors or seniors in the upper 10% of their class. Master’s students in the upper 20% of their class can be inducted, while all doctoral students are eligible.
The dean of Bauer College, Latha Ramchand, also serves on the Board of Governors for Beta Gamma Sigma, alongside fifteen other deans from around the world.
Today, induction into beta Gamma Sigma is one of the highest honors a business student can obtain. According to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Richard Scamell, “membership in Beta Gamma Sigma demonstrates academic excellence and exemplifies a commitment to high principles and superior achievement.”
Scamell commented further on the importance of this induction for the eighty students and their careers even after graduation from Bauer. With Beta Gamma Sigma being considered in such high regard, membership in the society is notable to corporate recruiters. “Long after graduation,” Scamell says, “membership in Beta Gamma Sigma provides benefits to its members during their personal and professional lives.”
