Rotman School Offers MBAs a New Global Consulting Project
The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto provides its Full-Time MBA students with the opportunity to earn credit while applying what they’ve learned to clients around the world. It’s all thanks to Rotman School’s new initiative, the Global Consulting Project. In partnership with Cuso International, Rotman School is sending their MBA students abroad to work on projects ranging from microfinance to entrepreneurship in countries such as Myanmar and Nigeria.
Cuso International is a nonprofit international development organization that works to reduce poverty and inequality around the globe. Collaborating with the Rotman School, they hope to mobilize resources to ultimately reduce poverty and inequality.
For Rotman MBA students, the Global Consulting Project offers them an opportunity to gain professional experience working with a global development agency in an international setting. They have the chance to learn more about the challenges facing international development.
“This partnership between Rotman and Cuso International is an example of how institutions can collaborate to mobilize resources—human and financial—and contribute to the economic growth and social well-being of communities impacted by poverty and inequality,” said Tiff Macklem, Dean of the Rotman School, in a press release. “It also helps to prepare our students to work in the global economy and to make an impact on society.”
For the duration of the Global Consulting Project, Rotman MBAs are considered Cuso International volunteers, meaning they receive extensive training and support from the organization. Students also receive mentorship from The Boston Consulting Group as well as advice from Rotman faculty members.
“The opportunity to go to a developing region for two or three months to learn about working in a completely different world and culture is rare,” said Alys Richards, MBA’16, in the same press release. “The knowledge and skills I’ve gained from going to Nigeria have without a doubt helped me develop personally and professionally. I believe that this experience was a contributing factor to landing a post-MBA position. While interviewing, it was something that every company was curious about.”
21 Rotman School MBA students participated in the Global Consulting Project this past year, and the School is pleased to announce that new projects are already scheduled for this summer.
