New Dean Announced at UC Davis GSM
The UC Davis Graduate School of Management (UC Davis GSM) proudly announced the appointment of its new dean, H. Rao Unnava, on June 15, 2016.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of H. Rao Unnava… effective June 22, 2016” said Acting Chancellor Ralph Hexter and Acting Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor Kenneth Burtis in a statement.
Rao arrives to UC Davis after serving a 32 year tenure at Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business. His most recent positions were as Fisher’s Senior Associate Dean of Students and Programs, in addition to a professorship in Marketing. His graduate teaching experience ranged from consumer behavior to promotional strategies, marketing management and the influence of human memory upon economies.
Among Rao’s acknowledgements are the outstanding professorship award from the American Marketing Association’s Student Chapter and Fisher College’s Outstanding Service Award. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, and a post-graduate diploma in management from the Indian Institute of Management, he worked as a senior marketing executive before moving to the United States.
While pursuing his Ph.D. in business administration at Ohio State, Rao earned the Academy of Marketing Science’s award for best doctoral dissertation in 1988. He then joined the faculty as an assistant professor of marketing.
A founding member of Angie’s List, Rao currently serves on the Editorial Review Board of both the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Consumer Psychology.
Rao will replace former Dean Ann Stevens, who will leave the position to focus on research and teaching in UC Davis’ Department of Economics. Stevens will also continue to serve as the school’s Center for Poverty Research.
