Graduate Certificate in Information Systems Now Offered at Quinlan
Loyola University Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business recently launched a new graduate certificate in Information Systems. The program offers the opportunity for students to gain greater understanding of the field without committing to a full-time graduate program.
The certificate program is divided up into five courses where students will learn how to translate business goals to technology solutions. This can be completed to be a stand-alone credential, or as a supplemental certificate in addition to a Quinlan MBA degree with an information systems concentration.
This certificate is for folks looking to learn the skills necessary for managing projects related to information systems. It’s recommended that every applicant has an inclination and aptitude for the field of data and information. That said, this program is designed for those with a background in accounting, finance, economics, marketing, statistics, math, psychology, or other fields.
What can you come to expect from the five courses?
There is one required core course, and four electives that focus on specific areas of interest. The required class is Database Systems while the following are all elective courses, of which student must pick four: Strategic Uses of IT, Systems Analysis and Design, Excel Programming using VBA, Quality in Systems Development, Project Management, and the soon to added Requirements Analysis.
Why is this certificate something worth looking into? Quinlan Professor Nenad Jukić puts it simply: Quinlan’s information systems students have historically enjoyed “extremely high” job placement rates in the field, especially in places like Silicon Valley, Seattle and Chicago.
“If you’re a serious student with interest, aptitude, and dedication, you’ll have job offers by the time you graduate, if not sooner,” Jukić said.
