Schulich Celebrates 50 Years at Anniversary Gala
The Schulich School of Business just celebrated its 50th anniversary with a large Gala held on May 27th at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto. Alumni from all around the world came together for this sold-out event to honor the school.
Mark Critch, star of CBC’s This Hour Has 22 Minutes, hosted the Gala. He was accompanied by Amanda Martinez, a Schulich IMBA 1999 graduate known for having “one of the greatest voices in the world,” as well as other notable alumni. Dean Dezsö Horváth also spoke at the event. His words were captured in an article by the University.
“I am proud of our faculty. I am proud of our staff. And I am proud of our students. But the greatest pride, the greatest satisfaction I have had as a teacher and as dean, is seeing the success of our graduates,” he said. “For five decades now, our alumni have carried the Schulich banner with honour and pride.”
During the event, Dean Horváth also spoke about his vision for the school. He talked about providing career opportunities for thousands of students. However, he wasn’t the only dean in attendance. Two former deans, Wallace Crowston and William Dimma, also attended. In addition, members of Schulich’s first two graduating MBA classes joined the festivities.
The night was one of celebration and hope for the future. Mamdouh Shoukri, the President and Vice-Chancellor of York University, congratulated the school and commended Dean Horváth’s leadership. “Let me say what a proud day this is for the Schulich School of Business and for York University,” he said.
Beyond the spectacular speeches, attendees also watched a videotaped message from Seymour Schulich, as well as a video that highlighted the School’s achievements over the last decade.
Overall, the 50th Anniversary Gala was the final event in a year-long celebration.
