Institute of Internal Auditors Names Coles College a Center for Excellence

The Kennesaw State University – Michael J. Coles College of Business recently attained the Center of Excellence level in the Internal Auditing Education Partnership program of the Institute of Internal Auditors.

The prestigious Center of Excellence level is the top recognition an institution can receive from the IIA. Kennesaw is only the fourth university in North America and seventh in the world to receive such a distinction.

“We are so honored to achieve this level of recognition from the Institute of Internal Auditors,” said Internal Audit Center director Richard Clune. “At the same time, being a Center of Excellence comes with it the responsibility to be a distinctive leader in the field of internal audit education, providing students with an education to prepare them as future leaders of the internal audit profession.”

Kennesaw State is the only university in Georgia which can award students with Intenral Auditing Education Partnership Certificates, which help indicate to employers the immense value a graduate will add to the workplace.

“Our tagline ‘Aspire to More’ captures what we try to do every day with every student in mind,” said Coles College dean Kathy Schwaig. “We’re listening, and we’re responding by developing relevant academic programs and graduating students who will be leaders in the decades to come.”

The IIA lauded Kennesaw for its emphasis on the importance of the internal audit profession, and supporting students within the field through an internal audit curriculum, which not only involves education undergraduate and graduate students, but also conducting applied research and engaging the greater internal audit community.

Kennesaw was also recognized for their collaboration with the IIA Atlanta Chapter, providing internships and co-op job opportunities for students.

“Our mission includes being nationally recognized, and earning this Center of Excellence goes beyond that as one of seven universities in the world,” said associate dean and director of the School of Accountancy, Kathryn Epps “We look forward to this next step in our journey to provide the best education for our students.”
