New Life Sciences Investor Syndicate Launched in San Diego
San Diego has always been a great place for startups thanks to the incredible universities that call the city home and the many business accelerator programs focused on launching new companies. One of the most well-known startup accelerator’s, CONNECT, just launched the San Diego Tech & Life Science Investor Syndicate to help fund disruptive tech and life science startups.
The new syndicate expects to invest in six deals a year with an average $10,000 per investment. However, the syndicate is open to anyone interested in early-stage tech or life science companies. Investors can invest as little as $1,000 to participate. Angel investors Steve Taylor, Andy White and Rod Ullens already back the syndicate.
What Is CONNECT?
CONNECT is a springboard accelerator program that, for the past 30 years, has helped more than 3,000 entrepreneurs in San Diego evaluate and develop innovative startups. CONNECT’s mission is to help create and scale great companies while providing entrepreneurs with the access they need to source funding.
Businesses that become a part of CONNECT gain access to more than 500 active and experienced mentors. These mentors work with entrepreneurs and researchers to build productive companies and launch innovative technology. CONNECT helps entrepreneurs with expert guidance, access to capital and business tools.
Since 1993, more than $1.5 billion has been raised to help fund new businesses in San Diego, and many of those businesses have come from the nearby universities. Most recently, Braykion, a company developed by students and alumni from UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management, was admitted into the CONNECT Springboard.
The Springboard programs is a flexible business accelerator program that lasts three to six months and helps businesses fine tune and improve their format and structure. Companies run through a marketing panel, a finance panel and a dry run/final panel and then present their updated business on Demo Day.
