Apple HBCU Scholars Program Creates Opportunities for TSU Students

The Texas Southern University – Jesse H. Jones School of Business recently announced a partnership between Apple and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) to establish the Apple HBCU Scholars Program, which will be available to select high-performing students from historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) or predominantly black institutions (PBI).

Students selected for the new program will have the opportunity to participate in an Apple HBCU Immersion experience in Cupertino, California, in early 2017 and return to Cupertino in the summer to intern with Apple. The program also includes a need-based scholarship for each student’s senior year to defray any cost that exceeds the student’s means. Not only will the program benefit students while in school, but it will prepare students for life after college as well through participation in various development activities and pairing with a mentor from Apple.

Students graduating between December 2017 and May 2018 with at least a 3.25 GPA are eligible to apply for the Apple HBCU Scholars Program. Participating scholars will be expected to participate in all program-related activities, maintain good academic standing, be able to spend 12 weeks in Cupertino for their internship and serve as a post-internship Apple Ambassador during their final year in school.

For the program, Apple has partnered with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), which helps find and develop leaders of tomorrow by providing high-quality education at an affordable cost. More than 80 percent of all students enrolled in HBCUs attend TMCF member schools.
