According to a news release on the University of Baltimore website, five employees from the City of Baltimore have received full scholarships to attend the University of Baltimore through the Baltimore City Fellows program, including two who plan to pursue MBA degrees.
The City Fellows program was developed by UB with the support of Baltimore’s Office of the Mayor. According to UB, the fellowship “is designed to help city employees make a commitment to higher education—a commitment that will enable these students to further their careers in city government and ultimately strengthen the city in which they work.”
This year’s University of Baltimore City Fellows:
- Arthur Cate III, deputy chief of Information Technology and Communications, seeking an MBA;
- Rana DellaRocco, deputy director for the Forensic Services Division, seeking a master’s degree in public administration;
- Sheneka Frasier-Kyer, division chief II and operations officer III, seeking an MBA;
- Herbert Naylor, water systems manager, seeking a business degree;
- Shawn Riddel, fire lieutenant for Advanced Life Support, seeking a degree in information systems and technology management.
“Scholarships always matter to our students, but we see the City Fellows program as extra special for two reasons: It helps the recipients in their careers as public servants and it’s a fine example of what UB does to support the city that we call home,” UB President Kurt L. Schmoke said in a statement. “We’re proud to have these students in our midst, and we know that they will benefit greatly from their experience at UB.”
