It’s not a coincidence that many MBA programs offer flexible options for earning your degree: Such degree programs understand that most business students are already working professionals with busy schedules. Nonetheless, submission of GMAT/GRE scores is frequently a requirement to apply for an MBA program.
The number of hours and often money that must be invested in preparing for the GMAT/GREs can make the already stressful process of applying for an advanced degree seem nearly impossible. Fortunately, if you have prior professional experience, many business schools offer the opportunity to waive the GMAT requirement, and some don’t require it at all.
If you are looking to earn your MBA in the New York metro area, here are a few options for programs that do not require GRE/GMAT scores or offer the possibility of a waiver:
Zicklin School of Business — Baruch College
The Zicklin School of Business’ Executive MBA (EMBA) program does not require students to submit GMAT/GRE scores in order to be considered for admission. To apply, applicants must demonstrate that they have the appropriate quantitative skills to succeed in the program. Applicants could choose to demonstrate their skills through GMAT/GRE scores, but they could also do so by taking an in-house admissions test or through prior academic and professional experience. Indeed, five to seven years of professional experience is a requirement for admission.
The Zicklin EMBA is a 22-month program for high-potential leaders looking to make a difference both in their companies and in the world at large. The program allows its students the flexibility to continue to work while earning their degree while creating greater opportunities in the workplace and beyond.
Zarb School of Business – Hofstra University
The EMBA program at Hofstra University’s Zarb School of Business allows mid-level, experienced professionals the opportunity to earn an EMBA in just 18 months. With classes taught on Saturday, the program lets students continue building a career while still engaging in a rigorous academic curriculum.
In order to be considered for Zarb’s EMBA program, applicants must possess an undergraduate degree, at least seven years of managerial or equivalent professional experience and demonstrated potential for executive-level leadership. The GMAT/GRE is not a requirement for admission to the program.
Lehigh University College of Business and Economics
Applicants to Lehigh University’s Flex MBA program have the option to apply for a GMAT waiver if they have either 10 years of full-time professional experience or at least six years of professional experience combined with a master’s degree. Applicants who hold a doctorate degree will also be automatically exempt from taking the exam. In addition to the waiver, applicants must submit their application, essay, resume and official transcripts from any institutions attended.
The Flex MBA gives students complete flexibility while earning their degree, with the option to take classes on campus or live online. Students may also mix and match their in-person and virtual experiences. Students who opt for the full-time Flex MBA can complete their degree in 16 to 24 months. The part-time and online Flex programs can take longer, but they do allow for more flexibility.
Stern School of Business – New York University
The Stern School of Business at NYU offers a 22-month EMBA program with classes every Friday and Saturday in New York. A general management curriculum is taught by world-renowned business faculty, and students can also choose from a variety of electives and two Global Study Tours.
Applicants to Stern’s EMBA program do not need to submit GRE/GMAT scores to be considered for admission. The only prerequisites to apply are a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and at least six years of full-time work experience.
Rutgers Business School, Newark and New Brunswick
The Rutgers Business School offers a number of options to waive the GMAT/GRE requirement for its full-time and part-time MBA programs. Applicants with advanced degrees may request a waiver to submitting test scores for the full-time program. Applicants to the part-time MBA program can waive the GMAT requirement if they have 10 or more years of work experience or are a Rutgers alumni with more than five years of professional experience.
The Rutgers MBA program has been named the number one public MBA program in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) and was ranked third in employment nationwide among 470 MBA programs. With options like the full-time, part-time or EMBA programs, students can pursue their education in an entrepreneurial and collaborative environment while on their own schedule.
Stillman School of Business – Seton Hall University
The Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University has been recognized among both “Best Grad Schools” and “Best Business Schools” in the United States. With a flexible schedule to accommodate working students, the Stillman MBA focuses on both the functional areas of business and the importance of ethics in leadership.

Applicants to the MBA Human Resources Management program do not need to submit GMAT/GRE scores if they have at least three years of professional experience in human resources at a Fortune 500 firm. The EMBA program does not have a GMAT/GRE requirement but does require each qualified applicant to interview as part of the application process.
