SDSU Names New Director of Zahn Innovation Platform Idea Lab

When it comes to creative thinking, SDSU’s College of Business Administration knows what its doing. The school recently created the Zahn Innovation Platform (ZIP) Idea Lab and named Kevin Popovic the director. Popovic will be in charge of designing and launching the lab on campus and leading it to national prominence and leadership in creativity, collaboration, and innovation.

There are a few steps to bringing the new Idea Lab to life. First, Popovic will have to design the space, which will be homed in the Engineering and Interdisciplinary Sciences Complex, and after that, he will be in charge of facilitating creative thinking.

In an announcement by SDSU Vice President for Research, Stephen Welter spoke about the new position and lab. In his announcement, Welter described Popovic’s role as working “with university leaders, faculty, students, and community partners in the establishment, organization, and management. In Kevin, we are very happy to find such a highly qualified and energetic person to design and launch the ZIP Idea Lab, and serve as its founding director,” Welter said.

Kevin Popovic was chosen for his role because of his previous experience. He is the founder and director of Ideahaus, an award-winning creative communications agency. However, it’s not just his experience, he’s an excellent facilitator and has years of experience helping students generate ideas.

“What started as a concept has turned into a real facility here,” Popovic said. “It is becoming a staple for student entrepreneurs and innovators, and even faculty are using it to say, ‘How can I take this idea I have and do something with it?’ I’m very honored to be able to try and build off of what the Zahn family has provided the university.”

For MBAs, starting September 1, San Diego State University’s College of Business Administration began accepting applications for their MBA program for the Spring 2017 semester. Applications will be accepted until November 1, 2016, and Fall 2017 applications will open up on October 1, 2016.
