Drucker Day 2016 to Focus on the Future of Mindful Business Practices
Claremont Graduate University’s Drucker School of Business will hold its annual Drucker Day event on November 5th. Guest speakers will address a range of topics, from the future of corporate retail to sustainable business practices.
According to the official event description, Drucker Day 2016 will “focus on the self-to-society spectrum of leadership challenges and skills. Distinguished and Drucker faculty will share how they use … [the] principles for self, team, and organizational management to positively impact society.”
Opening the event will be author and former Starbucks President Howard Behar. His recent book, It’s Not About the Coffee: Leadership Principles from a Life at Starbucks, profiles both the behemoth company as a whole and the individuals that make it work. Both Behar and Jeremy Hunter, a Drucker associate professor and founding director of the Executive Mind Leadership Institute, will address concepts of mindfulness in the workplace.
Other morning talks will be given by Jenny Darroch, Drucker professor of innovation, entrepreneurship and marketing, and John Janclaes, CEO and president of Partners Federal Credit Union of the Walt Disney Company.
Bridgette Bell, global supply chain category leader of packaging and oil for Pizza Hut and KFC Global and a Drucker alumna (EMBA ’10), will open the event’s afternoon session. Bell will be joined by Virgil Roberts, founding partner of Bobbitt & Roberts and a trustee of the school. The two will focus on social impact in their respective fields and in the larger global economy.
Concluding the day’s proceedings will be Drucker Chair in Management and the Liberal Arts Bernard Jaworski. He will devote his talk to the future of the school’s Leadership Arc program, which he co-chairs. Clinical Assistant Professor and fellow Leadership Arc Co-Chair Katharina Pick will also lead this discussion. They will facilitate an informal discussion exploring practical ways Leadership Arc students can apply the skills they gain as part of the program.
