Carey School of Business Dean’s Medals Presented to Robyn and Tony Coles

Carey School of Business Dean Bernard T. Ferrari was pleased to announce that distinguished business executives and philanthropists Robyn and N. Anthony “Tony” Coles, Jr. would be awarded with Dean’s Medals. Established in 2016, the Dean’s Medal is presented by the head of the Carey School of Business to recipients who exhibit extraordinary service, philanthropy and leadership on behalf of the school.

Robyn Coles is president of TRATE Properties, a real estate management and ventures company. She has been active as a fundraiser for healthcare causes, including efforts to combat cancer.

Dr. Tony Coles was chairman and chief executive officer of Onyx Pharmaceuticals, which, during his tenure, introduced two innovative cancer medicines. Coles, a Carey alumnus, also serves as vice chair of the board of trustees of Johns Hopkins University and is a member of the board of trustees of Johns Hopkins Medicine.

The Coles Scholarship, which is named after the Dean’s Medal recipients, supports financial aid at the business school, with preference going toward students who demonstrate financial need, have completed their undergraduate studies at either the Krieger School or the Whiting School of Engineering, and are pursuing a career or further graduate education in healthcare.

The medals were presented to the Coleses during Carey’s commencement ceremony on August 9, 2016. The Dean’s Medal is the highest honor bestowed by the school.

“Robyn and Tony Coles are true leaders both within the business community and Johns Hopkins University,” Ferrari said in a statement. “Their dedication to the values and mission of the Carey Business School and Johns Hopkins is evidenced in the work that they do and by their generous support of both institutions. It is with our deepest gratitude that I bestow this honor.”
