DeGroote MBA Earns $30,000 Scholarship for Winning Video

Each year, the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University holds the Adam Felesky MBA Scholarship Competition. This annual event takes place at the Ron Joyce Centre and offers newly admitted MBA students the opportunity to win a scholarship valued at $30,000.

The invitation-only competition required participating MBA students to create a three-minute video answering the question, “Should employers change to accommodate the unique workplace expectations of Millennials? If so, how, and how should other generations in the workplace be accommodated at the same time?”

This year, Michelle Zhu took home the top prize after a panel of judges and audience members voted on her video. According to a university news release, Zhu’s winning video stated, “There’s no single formula that can create the perfect work environment. But I think there are three things that can be applied across most disciplines—constructive feedback, performance-based rewards and work flexibility.”

For Zhu, winning the award was a huge accomplishment and very helpful. “This scholarship relieves a huge financial burden for someone of my age, and I will be using the award to pay for the MBA tuition,” she said in a statement. “Having this financial support will allow me to focus my efforts more on extracurricular activities that I hope will enhance my experience at DeGroote.”

There were also three runners-up in the competition: Elizabeth Van Dyck, Sharwin Rodrigues and Jassie Bhathal placed second, third and fourth. They took home prizes of $3,000, $1,000 and $500 respectively.

The scholarship competition is funded by McMaster alumnus and philanthropist Adam Felesky. Felesky is also chairman of First Marketplace Group, president of Protag3 Ventures and founder and former CEO of Horizons ETFs Management (Canada) Inc.
