Mays Faculty Honored By SEC Leadership Conference
Texas A&M University – Mays Business School marketing professor Mark Houston has been selected to participate in the 2016-17 Southeastern Conference Academic Leadership Development Program (SEC ALDP).
The SEC ALDP is a professional growth initiative which aims to identify and develop academic leaders for roles with SEC institutions. Four faculty members from Texas A&M have been selected to be a part of the program, including Houston, the marketing department head from Mays Business School. The other three faculty members from Texas A&M are: David Cairns, department head and professor, geography, College of Geosciences. Antonietta Quigg, associate vice president for research and graduate studies, Texas A&M—Galveston. And Cecilia Guisti, associate professor and associate dean for outreach and diversity, College of Architecture.
“It is our strong belief that helping to prepare administrators for the next phase of their career has the potential to impact all of higher education, both now and in the future,” SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said after the names were revealed. “Our universities make a significant investment in these individuals, and we are proud to work with them through this program.”
All faculty selected to participate in the SEC ALDP will have the opportunity to attend a series of workshops throughout the year, the first being held at the end of October at the University of Alabama. A second series of workshops will take place Feb. 22-24, 2017 at Mississippi State University.
John August, dean of faculties and associate provost at Texas A&M, also commented on how the faculty will benefit from their experience at the SEC ALDP, which regularly celebrates the achievements of students and faculty among the 14 schools represented by the conference.
“As a result of their experiences over the coming year, we are confident that our four participants will develop important administrative skills and a richer understanding of the shared academic aspirations of our fellow institutions in the SEC.”
