The Erivan K. Haub School at St. Joseph’s University recently announced a new specialty for those wishing to grasp the power of big data through their MBA studies.
The Data Intelligent MBA ® will provide students with the opportunity to pursue the degree online, or as a hybrid with on campus learning.
Today, students see that information management is key to success in any management role, in addition to the broader leadership skills that they must master in the business world. The Data Intelligent MBA ® is crafted to train future leaders to possess a highly specialized ability to navigate the ever changing landscape of data in each realm of business–including, but not limited to marketing, finance, communication and globalization.
Haub notes that the new MBA will help students achieve a higher understanding of “analytical expertise AND broad-based business learning” in regards to producing “relevant, real time, actionable data;” increasing ROI; helping workforces with modern analytics; develop better decisions-making skills and improving the overall bottom-line.
The Harvard Business Review has referred to data science as “the sexiest job of the 21st century.” While this may sound like hyperbole to many, it is impossible to deny the marketability of this set of skills. One executive from Booz Allen Hamilton described the possibilities of the career.
“Data is the new oil. You have to refine that oil and get it into a format so that you can make decisions.”
Among the goals of the Haub School’s new study area are instilling students with highly refined analytical tools; strengthening decision making in an ever saturated data landscape; and teaching mastery of “information assets”.
As Haub School professor Dr. Richard Herschel noted, “People who understand [big data] and who can discover opportunities to exploit it are an extremely valuable asset. They are the new agents of opportunity and change.”
