Carey MBAs Win Collegiate Maxi Oral Case Competition

According to the school’s website, four Carey Business School students took home first place at the recent Collegiate Maxi Oral Case Competition. Organized by the Direct Marketing Association of Washington’s Education Foundation, the competition was held on Nov. 4th in Alexandria, Virginia.

The competition challenged participating teams of graduate school students to develop a marketing strategy for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), which is the nation’s largest nonprofit working to protect families from drunk driving, drugged driving and underage drinking. MADD also supports drunk and drugged driving victims and survivors at no charge through local MADD victim advocates and our 24-Hour Victim Helpline 1-877-MADD-HELP.

The premise of the competition was to increase awareness and donations among young people. Student teams developed multi-channel marketinig campaigns, complete with audience identification, direct mail, email, digital advertising, social media, telemarketing and other relevant channels for fundraising that encompassed their recommended strategy for MADD. Teams provided a strategy brief that includes a solid, measurable goal in regard to the team’s proposed marketing efforts.

The Carey team was made up students from both the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., campuses, and it was led by assistant professor Sylvia Long-Tolbert, a marketing expert on the Carey faculty. The student participants were Fabiana Beltran, Aatmaja Desai, Amanda D’Luhy and Stephanie Gajda — Flexible MBA students at Carey.

Other than the team from Carey, students competing on behalf of James Madison University, American University, King’s College, University of Mary Washington, Salisbury University, Virginia State University, Drexel University and Johns Hopkins University were also in attendance at the competition.
