MIT Sloan School of Management recently published an article on its blog that surveys Fitnescity Lifestyle Management, a new personalized wellness service co-founded by MIT Sloan alum Laila Zemrani that may cut through the standalone wearables market, which typically offer feedback based on “generic trends.”
Zemrani explains that Fitnescity’s approach to personalized wellness “brings real-time data from wearables together with customized fitness coaching based on an individual’s lifestyle and an array of wellness metrics.” The way Fitnescity works is that clients are matched with personal coaches, “who help implement lifestyle changes in a customized 16-week program” that includes “fitness training, nutrition counseling and sleep and stress monitoring” and culminates in a “detailed review of the program’s impact on their wellness.”
Fitnescity builds wellness profiles from biomarkers collected from all sorts of devices—“fitness trackers, wirelessly connected scales, glucometers and heart rate and blood pressure monitors”—which are then integrated with individual “nutrition habits, sleep patterns and stress levels” and then combined with “the individual’s medical history.”
Zemrani believes that her company’s mission to “be at the forefront” of personalization “can mean the difference between chronic disease and health.” Fitnescity Labs “enables clients to visualize progress through tools such as 3-D body scanning which allows them to see how their bodies are changing through exercise and diet.”
