Fox Team Creates App to Transform Employee Review Process

Employee Review

MBA faculty and administration from Temple University’s Fox School of Business saw opportunity in a challenging question how can one make an employee review more engaging?

A new app for this very purpose, DevelapMe, has been integrated into the curriculum as a teaching tool for both graduate and undergraduate students.

Created by Dr. Tony Petrucci, Director of Leadership Development; Dr. Michael Rivera, Associate Professor of Strategic Management and Cliff Tironi, Performance Analytics Manager, DevelapMe utilizes a 1-5 scale to evaluate competencies in real time. It won the top prize in the 2016 Be Your Own Boss Bowl at Fox, one of the most popular competitions of its kind.

The app is tailored for the unique needs of client users, and for students, it has become an invaluable tool in areas such as human resource management.  According to Dr. Petrucci, “[Employee reviews can be] inefficient, time-consuming and … inaccurate. In addition, they don’t align with millennials’ desire for more-frequent feedback. And over 12 months, you can lose track of daily performance and behavioral nuances as they happen. With DevelapMe, those moments can be tracked in real time to accurately assess a colleague or an employee, and demonstrate areas of strength or weakness.”

Dr. James Sanfilippo is pursuing a Fox MBA while working as a spinal surgeon, and he has used DevelapMe both in his practice and his studies. He said, “[The app]… has afforded the leadership of [my practice] an opportunity to strengthen and grow our skills … with the tools of real-time feedback and communication.”

On January 20, 2017, creators Cliff Tironi and Michael Rivera presented DevelapMe to the Graduate Management Admissions Council at their annual conference in San Francisco.
