The University of Georgia – Terry College of Business‘ women’s initiative was recently honored by AACSB International as an “innovation that inspires.”
The Terry Women’s Initiative was created to empower women at the school by preparing them for success and help them to realize their full potential as part of the university and greater business community. Through the involvement of students, faculty, staff, alumni and recruiters, women at Terry can find their best-fit major and career through corporate site visits, internships and mentoring opportunities.
The Initiative is meant as a complement to the Women’s Leadership Initiative, a broader, campus-wide program launched by President Jere W. Morehead and Provost Pamela Whitten in 2015. Throughout UGA, the program encourages best practices in the areas of hiring, recruitment, and work-life balance.
The AACSB’s ‘Innovation That Inspire’ showcased 35 ways in which business schools across the world are empowering future leaders and addressing the needs of society. On February 6, the latest class of innovators- including the Terry Women’s Initiative—was honored by AACSB at its 2017 Deans Conference. The 35 honorees were selected from 315 submissions from 33 different countries.
Tom R. Robinson, president and chief executive officer of AACSB International, commented on Terry’s role as innovator: “I am thrilled to recognize the Terry College of Business for its role in driving innovation in business education and fostering positive chance in the areas of diversity and global economic prosperity.”
The role of the Terry Women’s Initiative as an “innovation that inspires” is not just an honor for the university, but also recognizes the importance of innovation in AACSB’s broader vision for business education, which was revealed in 2016.
