These Windy City business schools each offer specialized programs, concentrations, coursework and study abroad opportunities for students looking to develop international connects and understandings.
Chicago Metro International/Global Business MBA Programs
Booth School of Business – The University of Chicago
Home to the nation’s first Executive MBA program, Chicago Booth is one of the premiere business schools in the country and offers full-time, Evening, Weekend and Executive MBA Programs.
Booth offers a specialized International MBA (IMBA) degree program, which has been designed for students who want to gain a deeper understanding of global business issues, spend some time studying abroad, develop intercultural management skills and to build cultural and linguistic fluency.
Students are also required to take on a study abroad term through the International Business Exchange Program (IBEP). IBEP provides Booth students with opportunities to study abroad at one of the school’s 33 partner schools in 20 countries around the world.
Kellogg School of Management – Northwestern University
Originally founded in 1908 as the Northwestern University School of Commerce part-time evening program, the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management was a founding member of the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business. Today, the school is ranked among the top graduate business school’s in the world.
Kellogg boasts a Global MBA degree for students interested in international business. Kellogg’s curriculum prepares students to be able to lead in any economy around the world. Kellogg is also home to the International Growth Lab, where Kellogg MBA candidates team up with students from ESADE Business & Law School in Barcelona and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to develop market-based growth strategies for international organizations.
Kellstadt Graduate School of Business – DePaul University
Kellstadt offers full-time, part-time, Specialized and Weekend MBA programs, as well as more than 100 courses in 20 MBA concentrations and 17 specialized Master degrees.
Kellstadt offers one concentration in International Business. The multidisciplinary curriculum includes accounting, economics, finance, management and marketing courses, but ultimately focuses on how businesses is affected by international commerce. Note: Students who take up this concentration must fulfill a foreign language requirement. International Business students must also have some international exposure outside of the classroom.
Lake Forest Graduate School of Management
Lake Forest as a bit of an interesting past. Founded in 1946 in order to offer management training during the post WWII industrial boom, Abbott Laboratories, Fansteel Metallurgical Corporation and Johns-Manville Products Corporation joined forces with Lake Forest College to form the Lake Forest College Industrial Management Institute. Lake Forest Graduate School of Management eventually separated from Lake Forest College and today, Lake Forest Graduate School of Management is an independent, not-for-profit institution.
While LFGSM doesn’t offer a specialized Global MBA degree program, it does offer from international business courses as part of its Leadership MBA curriculum. Coursework with global focus includes: Global Business and Cultural Diversity, Global Finance and Global Marketing.
Liautaud Graduate School of Business – University of Illinois at Chicago
The Liautaud Graduate School of Business offers both full-time and part-time MBA degrees for students in the Chicago metro, as well as a variation on the part-time options called the Weekend MBA and the Flexible MBA, which are designed for working professionals
Liautaud offers various MBA concentrations, one of which is International Business. Courses one could expect to take in this concentration include International Finance, International Management, International Business Operations and Global Innovation Management.
The program also features a study abroad program in Brazil called “Doing Business in Brazil.” The two-week course brings students to Sao Paulo, Brazil and the Fundacao Getulio Vargas, one of the top business schools in South America. The study abroad course covers Brazilian and South American business issues, the political and social climate, national culture, consumer marketing and Mercosur.
Mendoza College of Business – Notre Dame University
Students enrolled in Mendoza’s Executive MBA program have the opportunity to participate in an International Immersions course in either Argentina, Chile and China. Overall, the Notre Dame Executive MBA curriculum includes coursework in management accounting, negotiations, and quantitative analysis, as well as a signature experience focused on executive integral leadership. Students are assigned a team of peers from different backgrounds to help promote a collaborative learning environment.
Quinlan School of Business – Loyola University
Founded in 1922, Loyola University Quinlan School of Business is the only Jesuit business school in Chicago. Quinlan offers an International Business concentration for students who want a competitive edge in the global economy. In order to complete concentration requirements, students must complete three specialized courses. Options include: International Financial Management, Global Logistics and Global Environmental Ethics.
