Henley Announces MBA Women in Leadership Scholarship Competition

MBA Women

For the fifth year in a row, the Henley Business School at the University of Reading is holding its MBA Women in Leadership Scholarship competition. The competition is open to participants worldwide and will be awarded once the winner’s place in the MBA program is confirmed. The winner will receive a fully-funded place—worth £39,500—within Henley Business School’s EMBA or Flex EMBA program starting in fall 2017.

The scholarship is designed to offer practical support for the development of strong female talent. It was created in concert with the 30% Club—a campaign launched in the UK in 2010 with the goal of achieving a minimum of 30 percent women on FTSE-100 boards—and the Financial Times. “Helping women to develop their leadership potential has been at the heart of Henley programs for many years, and our women alumni comment on how the MBA has not only developed their skills but also their confidence,” said Professor Ginny Gibson, Deputy Dean of the Henley Business School. “We are very pleased to be working with the 30% Club and the Financial Times to identify women with real talent who can benefit from this opportunity.”

Last year’s winner Ivana Chalmers said that the scholarship helped both her professional and personal development. Her winning response spoke about how women will become influential change agents in the sphere of business in the next decade.

Entry Requirements

To enter the competition, participants will need to complete a downloadable application form and write an 800-word opinion piece entitled “Can gender diverse leadership help ensure that technology is used to benefit society?” Opinion pieces should draw on data, research, evidence, and personal experience. The key is to write a compelling piece that makes readers “think differently” and “challenge the status quo.”

The deadline for all applications is 5 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017. All entries should be sent to mba@henley.ac.uk with the subject line “Women in Leadership Scholarship application.” Henley will shortlist up to 10 finalists, and then a panel of judges will choose the winning entrant, who will be notified by early July 2017.

To be considered, applicants should have five years of management experience for the EMBA and three years of experience for the Flex EMBA. Finalists should also be prepared to submit their C.V. as required.
