Merrick School of Business Appoints New Assistant Dean

The University of Baltimore’s Merrick School of Business has officially announced the appointment of Kathea J. Smith as the new Assistant Dean for Enrollment, Academic Affairs and Student Services. Prior to taking the job, Smith was the director of admissions and recruitment at the Welch Center for Graduate and Professional Studies at Goucher College.

“I’ve had the University of Baltimore on my radar for quite some time,” Smith said in the news release. “UB’s students come from variety of deeply diverse backgrounds and I found that to be appealing as I was searching for a new role. I’m truly humbled to be a part of this amazing and impactful institution. Getting to work with the Merrick School’s faculty and staff—all of whom are dedicated to seeing our students’ become successful professionals and entrepreneurs—is great opportunity for me.”

Smith has experience in implementing recruiting and retention campaigns, and providing a range of student services to nontraditional, military and veteran students. Her new duties as the new Assistant Dean will include overseeing undergraduate academic advising for business students, developing and maintaining course schedules, administering academic affairs and monitoring the course evaluation process.

A longtime student herself, Smith earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in human services from Stevenson University in 2004 before earning her Masters of Science degree in counselor education from McDaniel College in 2008.
