University of Delaware Announces Judges for Startup Funding Competition

Funding Competition

The final round of Hen Hatch, the University of Delaware’s startup funding competition, will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. on April 25. The competition will be held in Wilmington, Delaware, at the World Cafe Live at the Queen. UD has compiled a group of innovators and industry leaders to judge the competition, in which winners stand to receive $100,000 in cash and in-kind services.

There are six judges, including: Frank Andreula, Ngozi Bell, Holly Flanagan, Anthony P. Green, Erica Nemser, Brooks H. Pierce and Mark A. Turner. Each of them holds a impressive position in the business world, for example, Andreula is managing director and global head of Clint Service at JP Morgan Chase and Co., and Nemser is CEO of Compact Membrane Systems.

Over 70 teams applied for the venture competition, but judges narrowed it down to just the six groups who will compete for the sizable prize on Tuesday. Proposals include projects like “Revive,” a mobile app that helps women find a use for their old clothing and “Vibrating Therapeutic Apparel,” which offers products that use vibration to relieve pain.

Faculty member and venture support lead, Vincent DiFelice, said of the judges, “The women and men who have volunteered to judge our competition are knowledgeable and experienced professionals, active in the startup and innovation community … we are fortunate to be associated with them.”

Tickets to the event cost $20 for students and $50 for faculty and community members. Guests who attend the Hen Hatch Finals will enjoy a reception with hors d’eouvres and beverages, an award ceremony and innovation showcase and a chance to view the competing innovation proposals.
