USC Marshall Offers Scholarship For Women MBAs Over 30
Marilyn Beaudry-Corbett ’53 MS ’61, recently endowed a scholarship fund for female MBA students over 30 at the USC Marshall School of Business. Beaudry-Corbett’s remarkable life fuels her generosity. Having attended business school at a time when women were discouraged from pursuing careers and education, the USC Marshall alum forged a prosperous career in marketing.
“I was often the only woman in the room, but I persevered,” said Beaudry-Corbett. She began her marketing career at Audience Studies Inc., a marketing and advertising research firm. There, she rose to the role of chief operating officer, traveling all over the world to meet with clients. Though Beaudry-Corbett eventually decided to pursue her dream of becoming an archaeologist, her firm kept her on as a consultant so that she could support herself through school.
In 1977, Beaudry-Corbett earned a master’s degree in archaeology, followed by a doctorate in 1983. She went on to become an archaeologist and professor at UCLA, where she met her husband, Don Corbett, a retired dentist who took one of her classes. After two successful careers, Beaudry-Corbett decided to give USC Marshall four million dollars to the USC Marshall School of Business, so that other women might pursue business education.
When asked about Beaudry-Corbett’s donation, James G. Ellis, dean of USC Marshall said, “She understands first-hand the challenges women still face in advancing their business careers, and her investment helps level the playing field by offering them access to a critical educational opportunity.”
Since retiring from teaching, Beaudry-Corbett has taken an interest in philanthropy to support the organizations that have contributed to her extraordinary life.
