Lehigh Offering 1-MBA Scholarship To Social Entrepreneurs

Lehigh Offering 1-MBA Scholarship

Lehigh University College of Business and Economics is now offering a 1-MBA program (one year MBA), that will allow students to receive an intensive MBA education in 12 months. The 1-MBA is especially welcoming to students engaged in social enterprise. In order to help promising, social-minded students fund their education, the school has introduced an open competition for The Asa Packer Social Entrepreneurship Award (APSEA).

Lehigh boasts a long history of promoting progressive change through supporting and encouraging humanitarian endeavors. The APSEA is named of the the school’s founder, Asa Packer, who gave a gift of $500,000 to found the school in 1865, which was the largest endowment gift ever received by a higher education institution at the time.

In the spirit of Asa Packer’s generosity, the APSEA covers recipients’ full tuition and provides an $18,000 stipend for living expenses. Those with an undergraduate degree from an accredited educational institution who are engaged in social change, or aspiring to a career in social change are eligible to apply.

According to Lehigh’s website, awardees will be chosen based on, “… potential for creating a positive impact on the world, the scalability of the idea, the leverage an MBA education would provide to help realize your potential and the viability of the organization.”

It is fitting that the APSEA is geared toward those with humanitarian aspirations, as the curriculum of Lehigh’s 1-MBA program will explore issues of global concern, such as climate change, big data, and socioeconomic and demographic issues that affect both businesses and society. In fact, Lehigh describes the 1-MBA as, “… an ideal business education for those pursuing society-transforming missions in a social enterprise.”

The deadline for entering the competition is July 1, 2017. Applicants looking for more information on the process can email: business@lehigh.edu.
