Hyatt Regency Atlanta and Robinson College Announce Scholarship for Hospitality Students
The Georgia State University – J. Mack Robinson College of Business and Hyatt Regency Atlanta have announced a new partnership and $100,000 scholarship for hospitality students.
The partnership between the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration in Robinson and the Hyatt Regency Atlanta began as a celebration of the hotel’s 50th anniversary in May of 2017. Each year, the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Hyatt Corp. and the Hyatt Hotels Foundation will fund a $100,000 endowment, funding in perpetuity a scholarship for rising leaders in the hospitality field. The School of Hospitality Administration in Robinson will be responsible for selecting recipients for the scholarship based on a number of factors including academic performance.
The inaugural recipient of the scholarship was Halle Neeley, a rising junior from Atlanta. In May, Halle was honored at the 50th anniversary celebration for the hotel. General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Peter McMahon, was present at the celebration and commented on the partnership: ““We are honored to partner with Georgia State University to create this enduring gift for Halle and future young leaders in our community.”
He went on to mention the mission of the Hyatt Regency: “we care for people so they can be their best.” According to McMahon, the new scholarship allows the company to extend that mission outside the walls of their hotels and into the greater community.
Robinson Dean Richard Phillips also commented on the new partnership: “We are enormously grateful for this generous gift from our friends and neighbors at Hyatt. This scholarship will allow promising students to achieve their educational goals and help develop new leaders in our community and the hospitality industry for years to come.”
