Jindal Society for Human Resource Management Chapter Recognized for Success

The Society for Human Resource Management chapter at the University of Texas at Dallas – Naveen Jindal School of Management has recently been honored with the Superior Merit Award, the highest honor given to a student chapter.

The Society for Human Resource Management  is the world’s largest HR professional society, which currently represents roughly 285,000 members in more than 160 countries. There are over 575 affiliated chapters across the United States and throughout the world. The SHRM recognizes exceptional chapters each year according to three levels: Honorable Mention, Merit Award, and Superior Merit Award. To be eligible for the Superior Merit Award, a chapter must demonstrate appropriate operational practice and chapter leadership, as well as organize at least nine to twelve activities or projects.

The UT Dallas chapter of SHRM has been responsible for a number of events throughout the past year, including HR Day, a new event which invites panel discussion and meetings with HR professionals. In addition to HR Day, the chapter has also sponsored resume and internship workshops, attendance at the HR Southwest Conference and an HR Magazine discussion. There were also several networking events which allowed students, alumni, and numerous other HR professionals to engage with each other, including at the State Fair of Texas. Chapter members also partook in community service, volunteering at the Trinity Trash Bash, and assisting at the Walk MS in Dallas.

“SHRM is devoted to helping members develop into successful human-resource-management professionals, and getting the award means our chapter is exceeding expectations,” said chapter president and HR management student Savannah Austin. “Our chapter is always going above and beyond to help its members and leaders learn as much as possible.”
