The Sellinger School of Business has officially announced its three newest faculty scholars: Gerard Athaide, John Burger, and Yoon Shin.
Faculty scholars are Sellinger professors whose work is backed by the school. Faculty scholars develop other Sellinger faculty members and conduct scholarly research.
The three new Loyola Faculty Scholars are:
- Gerard Athaide, Ph.D., Professor of Marketing: A Ph.D. and MBA grad from Syracuse University, Athaide has been recognized as one of the world’s preeminent scholars in innovation management by The Journal of Product Innovation Management. He’s also a Fullbright Scholar, helping international institutions develop innovation strategies. According to the school’s press release, “Athaide will work with the business and management community and conduct theoretical and applied research in innovation management. In addition, Athaide will teach an advanced seminar and organize a conference as a forum for the business and academic communities”
- John Burger, Ph.D., Professor of Economics: Burger joined the Sellinger School of Business after earning his bachelor’s from Wake Forest University and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina. His work in economics and job markets has been published in numerous academic journals, including the Journal of Macroeconomics, Contemporary Economic Policy, the Financial Analysts Journal, and more. The school notes, “As the Research Impact Fellow, Burger will conduct research with demonstrable practical relevance to business and society that qualifies for publication in scholarly journals. Burger will also engage in internal and external professional service.”
- Yoon Shin, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Finance: After earning his BBA from Kookmin University in Seoul, South Korean, Shin came to the U.S. to earn his MS at Texas A&M University and Ph.D from the University of South Carolina. At Sellinger, Shin teaches Fixed Income Securities, International Finance, and Financial Management. The school notes that, “Shin will continue to publish work in scholarly journals, teach, and support research development among Sellinger faculty.”
Athaide, Burger and Shin join Sellinger’s existing faculty scholars:
- Richard Klink, Ph.D., DeFrancis Faculty Scholar
- Andrew Samuel, Ph.D., France-Merrick Economics Faculty Scholar
- Bobby Waldrup, Ph.D., Accounting Scholar.
The Sellinger School of Business offers a full-time Emerging Leaders MBA, in addition to the part-time and Executive MBA. The school was also ranked among the nation’s best business schools for graduate specialties in accounting, finance, and information systems in the 2016 U.S. News & World Report rankings.
