The benefits of an MBA education can often go far beyond just the business world. From medicine to law, a number of industries and professions can utilize and benefit from the skills of an MBA graduate. At the Rutgers Business School, Newark and New Brunswick, there are a number of degree programs that can be paired with an MBA, giving students the chance to take their business training into a variety of fields. Below, we provide a snapshot of the many Dual Degree programs available for Rutgers MBA students.
Juris Doctor/MBA
The joint J.D./MBA at Rutgers is offered between the business school and the Rutgers School of Law, offering students the skills to take on fields like finance, taxation and corporate practice with both a legal and business approach. The joint program allows students to earn both degrees in just four years, one year less than it would to pursue each degree individually. Students must be admitted to both the School of Law and Business School separately.
Students also have the chance to pair their J.D. degree with an MBA in Professional Accounting. During this program, students must complete one year of courses at the Rutgers School of Law before applying to the business school.
Master of City and Regional Planning/MBA
The MCRP/MBA is an 84-credit program that combines the strengths of each degree while reducing the duration of the program from four to three years. The dual degree offers students in-depth training in city and regional planning and the ways it relates to business management. The program will train individuals to impact their cities in meaningful ways and help stimulate such regions with a strong business foundation.
MD/MBA
At the Newark and New Brunswick campuses, students may earn an MBA in conjunction with a Doctor of Medicine degree. The program offers students a solid foundation in healthcare management, providing a unique learning environment for students to interact with a diverse community and learn from world-renowned faculty. Those interested in the MD/MBA dual degree program can apply to the Rutgers Business School either before enrollment or during the second or third year of their medical degree. The program in New Brunswick is a collaboration with the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, which allows students to earn their MD and MBA together during a five-year medical program.
Master of Public Health/MBA
The Rutgers School of Public Health and Rutgers Business School offer students the chance to simultaneously earn their MPH and MBA degrees during an 84 credit program that can be completed either full or part-time. The program will help prepare students for a career in health care administration. Students interested in applying to the MPH/MBA program must submit applications to both schools. For the MPH, students will be required to complete five core courses and five required courses (30 credits total) for the Health Systems and Policy Department, plus six credits of field work.
Master of Public Policy/MBA

The degree is offers in conjunction with the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers, providing students with the necessary analytic and quantitative skills to take on complex issues in public policy. Students must apply and be accepted to each program separately.

The Master of Science (MS) in Biomedical Sciences/MBA degree is offered through the Rutgers Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Rutgers Business School. Geared towards students with a background in science, the degree will help train students to be successful both in biomedicine and management. This degree may be necessary for many skilled scientists looking to move further in their career and into management positions such as a Department/Group Manager, Marketing Manager or Director of Materials Management at a biotechnical/pharmaceutical company, among other roles.
Doctor of Pharmacy/MBA
A collaboration between the Rutgers Business School and Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, the dual PharmD/MBA allows students to begin working towards an MBA while still in the PharmD Program. These qualified students will remain with their PharmD cohort and earn their doctorate at the same time as their peers, but may join the MBA program full-time after earning their degree and complete it in just one year (or three years for part-time students).
Accelerated Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science/MBA in Professional Accounting
At Rutgers, undergraduate students may choose to combine their liberal arts degree with an MBA in Professional Accounting, allowing them to earn their MBA with just two additional months for their degree. Students will complete their undergraduate courses during their first three years in school, and enroll in the 14 month MBA-PA program for their fourth year. Additional benefits to the program include a lower cost for both degrees, completion of the 150 credit hour requirement for the CPA examination, and the chance to take part in paid internships available through the MBA-PA program.
