McDonough Professor Named Finalist for 2017 edX Prize
Ricardo Ernst has been named as one of the 10 finalists for the 2017 edX Prize for Exceptional Contributions in Online Teaching and Learning. Ernst is the Baratta Chair in Global Business and professor of operations and global logistics at the Georgetown McDonough School of Business.
“It is an honor to be recognized among this year’s finalists who represent a diverse range of disciplines,” he said in the release. “As a lead instructor, I have the opportunity to impart foundational knowledge of what it takes to be a ‘global-ready leader’ and convey findings about the workings of globalization to help executives make informed decisions in a dynamic business context.”
The edX Prize honors massive open online course (MOOC) teachers for their contributions and innovations the edX community. Ernst runs McDonough’s Global Business in Practice MOOC, which is taught through the edX platform. GBP gives executives a better understanding of the inherent challenges of global business from the perspectives of Georgetown faculty and senior executives working for multinational companies.
The MOOC features lessons from professor Ricardo Ernst and fellow Georgetown faculty, as well as interviews with prominent global business leaders such as:
- Joe Baratta, Global Head of Private Equity for Blackstone
- Mark del Rosso, Executive Vice President and COO of Audi of America
- Fabrizio Freda, President and CEO of Estée Lauder Companies
- Franck Moison, Vice Chairman at Colgate-Palmolive
- Stephanie von Friedeburg, CIO at the World Bank
According to McDonough, MOOC participants represent 160 countries, including the United States, Colombia, India, Brazil, and Mexico.
Ernst has a well decorated teaching career. According to his bio page, he has been awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award for the International Executive MBA program, the Joseph F. Le Moine Award for Graduate and Undergraduate Teaching Excellence at Georgetown University, and the MBA Core Curriculum Award at The Wharton School University of Pennsylvania.
